CJK THE LABEL FOUNDERS INTERVIEW

CAN YOU EXPLAIN IN A FEW SENTENCES, HOW DID CJK THE LABEL START?

CJK: I have always been sewing from a very young age from around age 5. Over the years I have always found creating clothes with my hands a creative indulgence and embarked on many projects such as making clothes for people I knew or wedding dresses for friends.

Throughout the years I realised that clothes do much more than just clothe us – they embolden us and give us the confidence to show up in life with strength. With this understanding, I became very passionate about making women feel confident in what they wore.

My family has also been involved in the fashion industry for over 9 years and when I decided to launch my own label, CJK The Label was conceived.

WHAT IS THE BRAND’S VISION?

CJK: The brand’s vision has always been about the women who wear our clothes. We work hard to dress women to empower them so that they can present their best selves to the world with confidence and strength in every season of their lives.

I believe that we live in a society that has oftentimes in the past viewed femininity as something that is frail or weak. I want to show the world as well as the women who wear our clothes that to be feminine is to be courageous. I want to encourage women to embrace their femininity, to be happy.

YOUR BRAND IS A KOREAN-AUSTRALIAN FASHION LABEL. WHERE DO YOU SEE THE FUTURE OF FASHION IN THE GLOBAL WORLD THAT WE LIVE IN?

CJK: I think more than ever as the global world is coming closer together, we are seeing strong examples of cross-cultural expressions of creativity in art and fashion.

I hope that the overlap of these two cultures through my brand will be able to give women something truly unique to wear in their everyday lives. A style that is contemporary but modern as well as unique. I think it will not be surprising to see more brands in the future with strong creative expressions that come from a place of cross-cultural influences that inspire their work.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF HAPPINESS?

CJK: Happiness is knowing who you are, and loving who you are.

YOUR IDEA OF MISERY?

CJK: Knowing who you are, and rejecting who you are.

WHAT IS NEXT FOR CJK THE LABEL?

CJK: Short term wise, it will be to continue to work hard to bring beautiful, well-designed products that are timeless in both design and craft.

Long term wise, we want to leave a mark on the world as a brand that celebrates femininity. To lift women up.
